Bio: Even before these uncertain times, when the people lived in harmony, the land was home to many downtrodden and misgiven. When a starving child collapsed on the steps of the shaolin temple the monks took him in, clothed him, fed him, and taught him the art of kung fu. He was raised in the temple, and dedicated himself to its disciplines. Never forgetting his plight, he became afraid of what happens outside the safe walls. Hou trains relentlessly as an excuse to remain within the grounds. It is only a matter of time before he will have to leave, but luckily, he is more prepared than he realises...
Bio: At the age of six Mingxia lost her parents in a violent robbery. Mingxia spent four years wandering the woodlands and villages of the land in search of warmth, food and shelter. The blisteringly hot summers and freezing winters of the Songshan mountains made her growing body strong, her young mind sharp and her defining will unrelenting. Mingxia grabbed the attention of the Shaolin's Abbot four years later when she attacked an apprentice to steal a loaf of bread and, to the surprise of those watching, bested him. Ordinarily female students are not allowed to reside in the temple, but given that she has so much potential and without guidance would be destined to a feral existence, the Abbot decided that he had no choice but to insist that she stay.
Bio: The monk known as Wisdom long ago forsook his previous identity, taking on a name he believed embodies the true ideals of Shaolin, and is now in charge of kung fu training at the Shaolin temple. He has guided many formidable fighters through the techniques and philosophy of kung fu, always pushing them to reach their absolute peak of body, mind and spirit, becoming frustrated if they fall short, but never allowing his anger to surpass his title. When the Dragon Master first started consolidating his strength and the tendrils of his influence spread across the lands, Wisdom spotted the signs. He left the temple to build alliances with other kung fu organisations. He feared he was too late; someone else had already visited and convinced many of them that Shaolin was not to be trusted. So the master monk returned to his school to prepare for war...
Bio: Lao Li holds the venerated title of Abbot, a title not easily earned, and one that carries great weight. His role exists to be the embodiment of spiritual fulfilment through adherence to the Shaolin philosophy. He has dedicated much of his life with the restraint only few can attain, always choosing the way of peace over a path of destruction. Lao Li holds the cause of peace so close to his heart, he often clashes with Wisdom over what to do in the face of the Dragon Master's overwhelming evil. Lao Li recognises that he is merely the Yin to Wisdom's Yang, and because of this Lao Li respects both his role as purifying spiritual guide and Wisdom's righteous zeal with even keeled temperament. As he is known to say: 'No task is made easier when you are unbalanced', and his wise words are a reflection of his kung fu style.
Bio: The Chinese Shaolin and Tibetan Lamas are both Buddhist monks, but their ongoing feud is legendary. After one of the many clashes between the clans a young Fan Lin would be discovered by the Shaolin; bringing him in as an orphan, they taught him all they knew. Over time, he became one of the most trusted guardians of the lineage, and a favourite of the senior monk known as Wisdom. Little did they know, he was at heart still a Lama. Upon seeing his chance, Fan Lin enacted his ultimate plan. At night he brutally injured several Shaolin students and stole their sacred manuals which kept the knowledge of their most advanced techniques. He escaped into the nearby bamboo forest, and hasn't been seen since. This treasonous plot had dealt a bitter blow to the temple and to the hearts of those who trusted him. Master Wisdom in particular has found it hard to trust anyone since the betrayal, and has not taken on an apprentice since.
Bio: Though she would never admit it, Xiao Mei has the same fiery heart as her father master Xiao, though it is unwise to suggest as much infront of her. As a child she often tried to win his approval and trained relentlessly in that effort. Sadly to her it seemed his obsession with Master Cheng always overshadowed his affection for her. Her father's rejection made her replace her desire for acceptance with indignation, and set out on a quest to surpass his abilities. She eventually joined the secretive Flying Blades society, an organisation her father would never condone, where they taught her skills that Master Xiao never would have.
Bio: Known simply as 'Nia', the pedagogue of the Flying Blades Society has a past shrouded in mystery and myth. The Flying Blades Society are the self appointed ultimate enforcers of justice, and her organisation actively prowls China for causes worthy of their intervention. They maintain their secrecy by only recruiting orphans and outcasts, and their operatives are trained in many disciplines, from subterfuge to assassination. The cruelty and divisiveness of the Dragon Master quickly caught the eye of Nia and her organisation. Once it was decided that his iron grip had to be broken by any means, several agents were dispatched, but never heard from again. Now, Nia herself has embarked on the mission to bring the Dragon Lord to justice, and if that means defeating him in single combat, so be it.
Bio: Beggar Su has a habit of mumbling to himself, as he has since his childhood. Distracting himself with thought inevitably comes with thinking out loud. People give him a side eye or awkward glance as they pass him on the street or bounce him from their doorstep. Occasionally he will spend his coin to find solace in a bottle, or a few scraps of food. Nowadays he spends much of his time avoiding his pesky new companion. Many might think his mutterings are lamenting his last drop of wine, or his foggy mind's imagination playing tricks on the man. But, if one were to listen closely... They would pick up on the remorseful thoughts of a mythical martial arts master, betrayed and left with a lifetime of pain by their most trusted student. All can agree that Beggar Su casts a pitiable shadow on this world, few know that he once shined with light. It's the kind few who show him charity regularly that grow to know there is another side to the old beggar, a side that he had hoped never to show the world again.
Bio: For Chien Fu, his relationship with alcohol was a volatile one, ending when he drank far more than his fill and took issue with a beggar asking for coins on the street, having been thrown out of the bar for his rambunctious behaviour. In his drunken state Chien Fu told the beggar that he could fight him for all the coin in his pocket. To everyone's surprise, the beggar accepted. And to Chien Fu's shock, beat him handedly. When Fu woke from the extremely short fight, he had a full view of the night sky, a terrible pain in his jaw, and a clear mind. On being helped up by the spectators, he found his appetite for alcohol had disappeared along with the beggar and his coin purse. Chien Fu was astonished at the beggar's skill, none before had so effortlessly bested him. Now Chien Fu follows the beggar around, pestering him to learn his potent kung fu and acting protective towards his reluctant master should anyone try to shoo away or bully the ragged man.
Bio: When Ho Hwa's father, an established kung fu master, began his crusade against the local crime syndicate he was all but assured final victory thanks to his prowess in the ferocious Hwa family style. In anguish, he gave up not only his pursuit of justice but the martial arts entirely, settling down for the peaceful life of a restaurant owner... or, so he had convinced the world. Ho Hwa finds herself waiting tables and washing dishes, diligently working for her father's business by day. By night her father trains her in secrecy, determined that she should be able to protect herself, and those she cares for with confidence and strength. He decided to extend his stay in China, excusing himself from his obligation to his shogun under pretence that he had still had time to finish his quest. Onochi still half heartedly pursues knowledge about the Dragon Master, and has not let his karate skills slip since he is concerned that his undutiful behaviour will attract assassins or bounty hunters from his mother country. He ran a dual production model: premium suits handcrafted in New York and identical counterfeits mass-produced in sweatshops, both funneling profits into his accounts. His greatest deception was his public persona: A businessman 'fighting' Eastern competition while secretly controlling it. Rivals faced industrial accidents and toxic sabotage until bankruptcy forced them into his grasp. Today, his empire spans continents, blending human trafficking with tailoring, while New York hails him as an icon of craftsmanship.

Badly wounded by a robed man wielding a black bladed Jian, he fled into hiding in order to protect himself from the assassin he narrowly survived encountering. The prince disguised himself and sought passage to China, where he studied their mighty fighting arts and continued his investigation into his would-be assassin with the black blade. Bio: The Dragon Master cult is a secretive sect, but their prophecy is not unknown among the ancient martial arts disciplines across the land. A mysterious far off temple consulted their ancient rites years ago and recognized the danger of what, and who, was to come, and set their preparations. A new technique was developed in secret, and passed on to seldom few, to ensure that when a worthy student was chosen, there was no chance any kung fu master could anticipate its use. In time, an exceptional youth was deemed worthy of the sacred task and knowledge required to challenge the Dragon Master and defeat him. He was raised as an implement, one of singular purpose and prophecy, his name discarded and lost even to himself in the rigors or training.

Bio: After his smithy business went under due to greedy taxation, this humble blacksmith would use the dying embers of his forge to craft not only his final piece, but a new identity. The Iron Monkey hides his identity behind a black mask, and commits himself to the harassment and robbery of affluent nobles to share their riches among the lowly citizens. His sense of mischief and generosity (with other people's money) is a constant thorn in the sides of officials, who might incite riots if they were to track him down with appropriate force. The source of his kung fu is unknown, but masters who have witnessed his style find it to be distinct and deeply personal, perhaps derived from Shaolin practice. He inspires fear, with his crippling punches which are harder than any blacksmith's hammer strike, and hope with his stealing from the rich and giving to the poor antics.

Bio: Arashi does speak, though seemingly only to his victims and nefarious cohorts. His stillness and vigilance give him the aura of a coiled viper, and his eyes emanate intelligence. Even with the distinct look all the Masters of Death share, Arashi's threatening presence grants him the particular attentions of passerbys and opponents alike. The three ronin travel together, as a rule, and recently have been spotted in the cities and townships of more populated China. With the champions of the martial arts the world over convening in the shadow of the Dragon Master, there is no telling if the motivations of the Masters of Death for leaving their piratical solitude lie in fortune or glory.

Bio: The so-called Masters of Death are foreigners whose only known loyalties are towards each other and, even then, how deeply this bond is shared between the trio is a mystery. Homura is the most expressive of the three, occasionally breaking the stoic visage to shoot a threatening glare or reveal a devious smile. He shares the distinct garb of his compatriots, though perhaps takes a little more pride in his appearance than his companions. Bio: One would need to travel to his homeland of Japan to learn just what it was this scorned ronin did to earn his banishment since Kinzoku rarely leaves inquisitive witnesses in his wake. He is part of a trio that arrived from Japan, but quickly headed inland to take up residence in an abandoned desert shrine. While remote, the position is well suited for launching raids on passing caravans.
